Manfredo Zimmermann
Teacher (recorder and baroque traverso) at MHS Köln/Wuppertal
professional player (recorder and baroque traverso)
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I grew up as well.
Very early I came into contact with music which accompanied me all my life - with one short break (football!)
At the beginning it was the recorder, after some time I changed to piano, then to trumpet and finally ended up playing the flutes, for now the flute was added to the recorder.
After some semesters of engeneer studies I definitely changed to music and studied first at the conservatory Graz (Austria)
(concert examination "cum laude") and afterwards at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (recorder and baroque traverso).
I taught at the Conservatory in Bern/Switzerland and since 1987 I am teacher at the Musikhochschule Köln/Wuppertal.
Besides teaching I feel that concert playing (chamber music & orchestra) with the recorder and the baroque traverso is
crucial for my personal development.
As a teacher I feel responsible to give my students:
- a solid basic technique, which accords with every single personality,
- the capacity to exhaust their own potentials,
- support for finding their personal "style",
- stylistic sensibility,
- responsibility for their professional future
